About Rotary

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

There are 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

About Our Club

The Rotary club of Benoni Van Ryn is structured, as is most clubs, with a President and Board of directors who administer the club. The President leads the board and the directors each have a responsibility for one of the activities of the club. The President also chairs the weekly meeting where a speaker, each week, talks on his special topic of interest.

All planning and administration of projects is done in committee under the appropriate director. The President and Directors are elected by the club for one year and directors can be re-elected but the President only holds office for one year.

Organisation Structure

The Club was inaugurated in June 1972. New members are high on our priority list, as membership is important to the club as well as Rotary as a whole. The Rotary year is from July to June.

Our club is registered as a NPO, so donations are tax deductible. Our NPO number is 106-542.

The Club is one of 90 clubs in the newly formed District 9400, which is an amalgamation of Districts 9300 and 9250 under District Governor Anneas Balt. The District covers an area Including Gauteng, North West Province, Mapumalanga, Mozambique, Limpopo, Swaziland, Botswana and Zambia.

The districts report to Rotary International, which is headquartered in Chicago in the USA.
